Frequent Questions

What kinds of grants does EPA offer to communities under the Superfund program?

EPA offers Technical Assistance Grants (TAGs) to groups of residents living near Superfund hazardous waste cleanup sites. The objective of a TAG is to encourage and enable the community to be actively involved in making decisions about the site. A grant of up to 50,000 per Superfund site is available to community groups whose specific mission is to inform and involve the community in the Superfund cleanup activities. Grant monies are often used to hire a technical advisor to interpret Superfund activities and information and help the community comment on and participate in the decisions. Grant monies can also be used to hire a grant administrator to help manage the grant. For more information on TAGs, please see the Technical Assistance Grants (TAG) section of our web site.
