Frequent Questions

What does Superfund do?

The sole mission of Superfund is to clean up abandoned, accidentally spilled, or illegally dumped hazardous waste that poses a current or future threat to human health or the environment. To accomplish this mission, Superfund works closely with communities, Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs), scientists, researchers, contractors, and state, local, tribal, and Federal authorities. In conjunction with these groups, Superfund identifies hazardous waste sites, tests the conditions, formulates a plan of action, and cleans up the site. For more information, please visit the Learn About Superfund page.
