Frequent Questions

What is a ROD (Record of Decision)?

The Record of Decision (ROD) documents the cleanup remedy for a site or a contaminated part of a site called an operable unit. After the remedial investigation/feasibility study is completed at a National Priorities List (NPL) site, a remedy is chosen.

The ROD certifies that the remedy selection process has followed the requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the National Contingency Plan (NCP) for hazardous releases and oil spills. It also discusses the technical components of the remedy. In addition, the ROD provides a consolidated source of information about the site to the public.
